ACSI SPEECH MEET - BLUE RIBBONS GALORE! |

Months of study and weekly practice sessions have paid off for students at
Eastside
Christian
Elementary School as they returned to school with blue ribbons flying after participating in the Association of Christian Schools International Annual Speech Meet. Accepting the challenge and commitment to memorize and study a wide range of presentations including poems, patriotic orations, scripture passages, and writing original speeches, these students stood before a panel of judges and performed their oratories receiving superior and excellent commendations: 1st grade, Hannah Vinson, Xylon Ward; 2nd grade, Jeremy Flye, Amy Hatfield; 3rd grade, Kaylee Kang, Kian Sanchez, Karina Love; 4th grade, Jordan Flye, Colby Reese, Felicia Orosco, Erika Lucero; Fifth grade, Nathan Smith, Laura Bayeh, Anthony Cordova, Sarah Ritter, Morgan McCool; 6th grade, Madison Bock, Jessica Jang, Andrew Hatfield, Michael Whitmer,Teagen Frakes. Congratulations to all! |

6th Grade Outdoor Eduation Trip |

I, Mr. Schoen, had the privilege of spending last Thursday, April 30, with our sixth grade class and their teachers at their week-long outdoor education camp at Alpine Christian Camp and
Conference
Center in the mountains near Blue Jay and
Lake
Arrowhead. My plan was to arrive at camp for breakfast at 8:00 AM. |

4th Grade Sacramento Trip |

DAY 1
Our 4th graders had an early start to school on Wednesday at 5:00 AM. We boarded 2 buses and head to Sacramento to our State Capitol. We were treated to tours of the Senate Gallery, the Assembly Gallery, and the Governors office. Our tour guides explained processes and procedures for all that happens in the Capitol and the steps a bill takes to become a law. From there we headed out to Fort Sutter. |

AN OVERVIEW OF THIS SCHOOL YEAR

Accreditation Review Year
ECS is committed to continuously raise the bar of excellence. One strategic means is through our dual accreditation (WASC and ACSI). This year ECS is submitting a Progress Report that validates we are maintaining our integrity and academic excellence. In the spring of 2006, ECS received a full six year accreditation term with a mid-term progress report. This is the highest accreditation award that a school can receive.
Art Studio
The Art Studio is for all ECS classes. Students will recognize God as the Creator and be thankful for all of God’s creation. Young artists will create works of art which glorify God. They will build an appreciation of art as they explore its historical and cultural value. The Art Studio will provide a place to experience the art of great masters while sharing their own creative art expression with their peers. The visual arts enhance communication, self-expression, fine motor skills, self-esteem and the ability to problem solve. They will learn the language of Art, Elements of Art, and the Principles of Design as stated in the California State Standards.
Academies of Inquiry (Grades 4-6)
The Academies of Inquiry offers a structured program in an environment that is truly unique for fourth through sixth grade students. One day a week children find comfort in the nurturing environment the ECS staff has established for each individual academy. These academies are designed to enhance the academic strengths, interests, and learning styles of all our students. The focus is on exposing the children to challenging and enjoyable learning experiences across the curriculum. The academies will consist of eight areas of interest to provide students with semester-long enrichment clusters. All students will have the opportunity to participate in every academy at some point during their upper elementary years.
Student Council (Grades 4-6)
Christian leadership and excitement among the student body is the future of ECS. We are excited to introduce a student council to the 2008-2009 school year. There can be nothing greater than students leading students in a planned and directed manner.
Computer Enrichment
Mrs. Pam Jones has assumed the Computer Technology position. The computer lab adds a new vision to bring technology closer to the lives of our children by integrating technology into their core subjects.
Parent Advisory Committee
A valuable asset to any school is the parents. They are the stakeholders who assist ECS to accomplish those goals that benefit the children. Through parent surveys we reap insight and direction to lead us to greater perspective and excellence. Of course, not all recommendations and insights can be accomplished in a single year, but we are heading in the right direction.
