Academy of Art Appreciation: In this academy you will learn about some of the great masters who have influenced art throughout the decades. You will be able to not only learn about the techniques in art they are famous for, but you will be able to utilize those techniques in “masterpieces” of your own. Fee: $10.00 Academy of Creative Writing: This is a FUN way to experience writing and creating writing topics. We will experiment with 'Word Webs', 'Creative Vocabulary', and even 'Building Ice Cream Cones!' Come and explore your amazing ability to use the wonderful mind that God gave you; and learn to put those thoughts on paper. Academy of Reading Development: Read to learn. Create connection, learn to synthesize and approach new genres. Make sense of the world around us through reading. Yearbook Academy: Yearbook is open to 8 students who apply and are chosen to be part of the team. If selected, you will be in this academy all year: you will work on yearbook for three quarters (September - March) and spend the fourth quarter doing another academy to be determined. In yearbook, you will take pictures, write captions, and help plan what the 2009 yearbook will look like inside and out. Fifth and sixth grade only. Application required. Academy of Science: The academy of science will allow the student to grow in scientific knowledge through hands-on experiments and observations. Students will have the opportunity to utilize the scientific method through analysis and reporting results. Possibilities include studying chemistry, life science, and physical science. This is an exciting opportunity to experience and appreciate God’s creation. Fee $10.00 Academy of Literature: This Academy is designed to develop reading skills to support strong habits. The Academy will provide a place for students to discover the joy and value of reading through active participation in the thinking process involved in reading, with an emphasis on building fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and critical thinking skills while engaging in a readers theater format. |
