Art (High School or Junior High)
This course is designed for students to explore a variety of art experiences utilizing a vast array of art mediums. Regardless of prior art experience, students will be encouraged to utilize artistic expression following the example of the Master Creator. Students will engage in drawing, painting, simple forms of printmaking, sculpture and design. They will learn art processes, gain knowledge of artists and their work, and experience dynamic interaction through reflections, discussions and art critiques.
Art II
Students who have taken a semester of Art 1 will engage in advanced artistic activities that will build upon Art 1 experiences. Students will apply their knowledge of the elements and principles of art and the use of various media to create work that is excellent and meaningful. Reflective critiques, field trips and exhibits will be shared with students of all art levels.
Advanced Art (Honors) Pre-requisite: Art 1 and 2
In this course, students will complete four pieces of finished work with a minimum of four media of choice. These pieces will be completed with studies, art making processes and presentation format. The students will create pieces that fulfill the requirements of heritage and a statement of society today. Students will share in critiques, field trips, and exhibits.
AP Studio Art
Completed as an independent study course,
Band
Designed for the intermediate and advanced musicians, band brings students together to play music that will glorify God. Whether classical. modern, pop or Christian, the music offers students the chance to further develop technique and to enhance their musical experience. Students in band play in a variety of concerts and competitions throughout the school year.
Drama
Students in drama will develop self-confidence on stage by participating in group and individual theater games; they will rehearse and perform monologues and create original Scripture-based sketches. The production of a one-act play will be the culmination.
Junior High Choir
Beginners to vocal music will form a choral ensemble through which the student will learn basic musical concepts such as music theory, vocal production, stage presence and performance etiquette. Each performance will consist of quality sacred and secular literature.
Women’s Ensemble (Honors)
This ensemble is created specifically for the cultivation and exploration of the female vocal instrument and its use in the performance of sophisticated solo and choral literature. Each student will master concepts in choral styles and languages. This group performs at many adjudicated and rated festivals, competitions and chapel throughout the year.
Voice Class
Students will learn, in a pedagogical approach, the foundations of proper vocal technique. Students will study art songs in the classical languages with focus on Italian and English. Discussions will ensue regarding musical concepts relating to historical styles and textual nuances. These students will perform in a vocal recital at the end of the year.
Chamber Singers (Honors)
This class is designed for the students who wish to be challenged vocally, musically and intellectually. As the premier vocal ensemble at Eastside Christian, students will be held to the highest standards of musicianship and professionalism, and will perform competitively. The choral literature performed is of the same level as most universities and is drawn form the early Renaissance to contemporary praise and worship. Languages in which the students will be expected to sing include Italian, German, French, Russian, Japanese and English.
Photography (JH or HS)
Students learn the fundamentals of composition and design, as well as camera functions and display.
