Emotional Development

Staff and child interactions create a sense of consistency and security by:
  • Responding  sympathetically to help children who are upset, hurt or angry
  • Praying with and sharing the word of God with children regularly
  • Responding to children in a warm and supportive manner
  • Encouraging the development of mutual respect between children and adults
  • Motivating and guiding the children to become independent by promoting self-help skills
  • Respecting children by listening attentively, making eye contact, and treating children fairly
  • Recognizing each child's individual needs
  • Praising children's accomplishments and efforts
Through the use of the Art Studio children are provided materials and activities through which they can explore their ideas and feelings.  They need creative, rather than predetermined activities.  Children become creative not by what they produce, but by what they attempt and explore.  Children develop self-confidence and decision-making techniques when they are allowed to determine the outcome of their projects.  Creative beginners need the freedom to explore without experiencing failure.
