Physical Education, Junior High
This class explores various team and individual sports. Students will be introduced to the many skills, rules and play of football, softball, baseball, volleyball, basketball, soccer, running, and other health related activities. The emphasis in physical education is on developing an appreciation for total fitness. Every effort is made to expose each student to the aspects and knowledge involved in physical fitness as a lifelong priority. Our junior high girls program emphasizes the importance and appreciation of total fitness, beginning with an overview and introduction to team sports such as basketball, softball, volleyball and soccer including skills, rules, strategies and application of the sport throughout their lives. Understanding the importance of everyday fitness and overall health is incorporated through physical training, nutrition education and aerobic exercise. The emphasis in physical education classes is on developing an appreciation for total fitness including health-related and skill-related issues. Every effort is made to expose each student to the aspects and knowledge involved in physical fitness. Classroom and laboratory work will be done as well as an exposure to activities involved in sports skills for leisure time and athletics. The purpose of this course is to help students to gain an understanding and appreciation for overall fitness and sport. This will be illustrated through a variety of daily fitness activities as well as an introduction to a variety of sports. Athletics
All students participating in a sport whose season begins or ends with in the semester must be enrolled in athletics. Off-season athletes will engage in training for football, cross-country, basketball, baseball, volleyball, and softball. |
