UPDATED NEWS

August 24, 2020

Big News!!!!- Orange County is officially off the Covid-19 watchlist. State guidelines requires us to be off the watchlist for 14 days in order to reopen. If all goes well, we hope to resume on-campus, in-person instruction mid-September. More information to follow.

Governor Newsom announced that all schools, both public and private, in counties that are on the designated Watch List must open with distance learning.  Unfortunately, Orange County is currently still on the Watch List; therefore, we are required to start the school year online.

I want to reiterate that it is our intent as a school to open on-site at the earliest date possible.  That day may be sooner than later or vice versa.  Therefore, we have made all preparations to be on-site as well as online.  We do not know how long we may be required to remain online, but we will be prepared for any circumstance.

Our Zoom classes is a full day program for grades 6-12; Elementary program is from 8am - 1:30pm.

For some, this announcement may come as a relief.  For others, it may be a disappointment.  As people of faith, we are called to be thankful in all things.  Wherever you may be in this journey, let’s be united in our thanksgiving to the Lord.  Our theme for the new year is, Blessed.  We truly are, in every way possible.  Let’s be thankful that he blessed us with an opportunity to be of service to Him and for the opportunity to bless the children He loves so dearly.  Let’s do our very best in all circumstances, whether on-site or online, for our work is unto Him and for His glory.

Thank you for your patience and your flexibility during these unprecedented times.

We are coming to the final stretch of summer!  Orange County is still on the designated Watch List for COVID-19; therefore, we will be following the state guidelines and opening the new school year online.  As soon as Orange County is removed from the Watch List, we will return to on-site learning and continue to provide an online learning option for families who wish to remain online.  Once we return to on-site learning, we will follow the safety guidelines to ensure that our children, staff and families remain safe while on site..

In the last school year, Eastside persevered and covered all the curricular content.  This success was due to a strong commitment from our teachers, the perseverance of our students and the support of our parents.  With your continued support, we intend to provide a full curriculum for the year with expectations of excellence in all that we do.  Our teachers are making their final preparations and are looking forward to meeting their students!

Please carefully read through the attached documents.  Many items have changed with the advent of mandatory online learning.

From all the staff of Eastside to you and your loved ones, we pray for a healthy and restful remaining days of summer.

Our prayers all summer have been that you are all rested, fully enjoying your time off, and that all our students, new and returning, are being prepared by the Lord for the great plans He has for us this year! We are diligently planning for a safe reopening on site on Tuesday, August 11 at 8 am for all grades. Guidelines on safe reopening of schools from local, state and federal health agencies continue to change and we want our plan to be in alignment with the final guidelines. Therefore, we will send a follow-up email with details for the reopening plan as we get closer to the start of school.

Unless we hear otherwise from the appropriate authorities, our plan is to open with on site learning starting August 11. Our on site program will be a full day program. We will also provide an option for parents to have their student participate live through Zoom. Teachers are preparing their on site teaching method to include managing Zoom for students who choose to participate online.

If the lockdown remains for schools in August, we will continue the online learning through Zoom. The program would once again be a full day program for grades 6-12; Elementary program would be from 8am - 1:30pm.

Our decision for the model(s) we implement will be predicated on allowances from the appropriate authorities.

The following are some of the safety protocols we would have in place for an on site learning experience.

     • Parents are responsible for notifying and keeping student home when student is sick

     • Classroom occupancy will be limited to allow for social distancing
     • Convert large areas that were previously used as chapel, cafeteria or multi-purpose
rooms as classrooms for             proper spacing of students
     • All students, staff and anyone on site must wear face a mask and/or face shield whenever
possible
     • All students and staff must carry mini hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes for personal
use
     • Frequent hand washing to be encouraged
     • No communal supplies, each student would be responsible for their own supplies

     • No sharing of learning aids
     • Desks placed 6 feet apart, all facing the same direction

As states begin to partially open, we are making plans on how to return to school with safety protocols.

As a school with a relatively small population, coupled by nearly 120,000 SF of building available to us, we are in a distinct position from most other schools.  Attached is a sample floor plan of our 2nd floor classroom configuration.  Each classroom averages 900 square feet with 12 students per classroom.  This configuration exceeds more than the current guidelines for social distancing.

In addition to all the current classes, we also have large areas such as the chapel, cafeteria, atrium, gymnasium and sanctuary that can be utilized as classrooms to ensure proper distancing.

We will continue to follow guidelines as they are made from local, state and federal authorities.  Unless we hear otherwise from the appropriate authorities, our plan is to open on site starting August 11.  Our on site program will be a full day program.  We will also provide an option for parents to have their student participate live through Zoom.  Teachers are preparing their on site teaching method to include managing Zoom for students who choose to participate online.

We look forward to seeing you in August!  In the meantime, please feel free to share this information with friends and prospective families who may be considering Christian education with an on-site, full day program for the fall semester.
